Xperia 1 mic not working

Mic was working fine and has suddenly stopped working.

Have tried restarting and checked for updates to no avail

Hi @Jingsy, let me see if I can help out here!

Xperia 1 has two microphones is it the main microphone (used for calls) or the secondary microphone (used for video recordings, calls on loudspeaker, video calls etc.). to see where the microphones are located, see point 2 and 13 in this overview.

A good start is to check if the microphones are covered by a protective case or any dirt or lint. You can also test the functionality of the microphones in the support app. Find and tap Settings > Support > Xperia Tests > Speakers and microphones.

Another good thing to check is whether the microphones work better in safe mode or not. Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode where all apps downloaded from Play Store is temporarily deactivated while in safe mode and that way, you can see if this behaviour is caused by a downloaded app. For more information on safe mode and how to use it, click here.

Same issue for me, the test said that it would work but it didn't.

Tried to restart in safe mode but no luck there. I have tried all the possible ways and nothing helps.

I can only use main microphone with my handsfree but first it was the other way. When the problem started I couldn't use the microphone on my headset but now it is on the phone.

Hi @FoxTolv, sorry to hear that you are affected by this as well.

If the behaviour of the main microphone persists in safe mode, I would suggest that you try to repair the software on the phone using Xperia Companion and a computer. Keep in mind though that a software repair will erase all user data from the phone, so make sure that your userdata is backed up before the repair. It could be an issue with the microphone hardware part itself, you may need to contact your support peeps to get a repair service done.
