Is there a way to add a pane (screen) in between existing panes? I can add one to the very end but then cannot rearrange the panes.

Whats is your device model number? And have you tried to touch and hold any item that you want to add to the new pane?

Just add a new pane and slide the icons from one pane to the other.

To add a new pane, long press an icon and drag it over to the right, this will create a new app pane.
