Hi,

I have an X Z with a 32 GB Class 2 Transcend micro sd. I am really offten facing the following issue:

- taking pics

- trying to look at pics in Gallery (in German the App is called Album)

- placeholder thumbnail for some pics, file size is 0 looking at the files in file browser

- in Album app trying to select the second tab ("my albums" or so, where all the social service albums are collected) => "No storage available", in German it says "Kein Speicher verfügbar") and the app closes immediately.

- Trying to take a picture: Cannot save image

This is really annoying and only restarting the device helps. This also happens if I set the storage medium to internal storage!

So again, this is data loss since some pics have 0 kb and are lost.

Do you already know of this issue. Can it be related to the microsd card I am using? It also happens saving to internal storage so I doubt it.

And btw: Which microsd card is the recommended one?

Thanks,

Historus

I can fix the problem by simply restarting the phone without clearing the app cache.

Doing this does not bring back photos only having 0 kb in size?

Long story short: It doesn't help. Restarting the phone is no solution at all. The problem persists.

It's me again with another account. This weird forum always brings the account or login window when I log in using my xperie account. This is really awkward.

I have deleted the card with the smartphone. Let's see whether it helps somehow. I thought about ordering a class4 or class10 card but I read about the requirements recently. It says all class 2 - 10 cards should work since it is not a DSLR.

I would like to hear a statement of one of the sony officials whether this is a known issue or not. Losing photos just taken and the storage not being available sounds like a severe problem to me.

and: WTF??? Why is google authentication working and xperia smartphone accounts not?...

So the issue with the album app not being able to access the storage happened again and I deleted the album app data through the settings. And yes, the app was reset and I could choose the second tab again. All settings were lost for sure, but I can avoid a restart this way. Definitely sounds like a bug though. I didn't connect the facebook album, maybe that helps. Since the social connect app provided by Sony cannot access my facebook aaccount I wouldn't be suprised if the album app has problems there as well.

Will see wether the 0 kb photos problem will occur again.

Yes, it happened again yesterday night. No photos were taken and trying to make a screenshot of the failure wasn't possible and failed with the error message "Failed to save screenshot". Makes sense. I'll try another sd card although I am still wondering why this also happens saving to the internal storage. Still missing an official reply.

Today I got my new class 10 micro sd card but I am still observing the random errors with placeholder thumbnails in the Album app, errors when trying to create a screenshot and not being able to access photos. Therefore I requested a replacement which I will receive on Friday. I will then see whether the problem also occurs on another phone of the same kind.

My album app is replacing the generic "no art" thumbnail with a random thumbnail from an artist on my collection. Is that your problem?

The issue persists even when I go to song, edit info and reset the art thumbnail. Haven't tried erasing the Album app data yet because it doesn't bother me that much.

Update:

I received a brand new xperia z with fw 434 already installed. It appeared to work much smoother and I didn't encounter this issue a long time. Then after a few days I was facing the issue again. That time many apps were open and I guess one of them still held a lock on the internal database which leads to the album app not being able to access it.

Closing all recent apps the issue was mostly gone. Sometimes I still have to delete the album app data to restore functionality. Good thing: I don't have to restart the phone.

It seems to be a software issue only. Which is somehow sadder than a hardware issue. With update to 253 it is NOT fixed.

Whenever this problem occurs taking screenshots is not possible. Screenshots are always stored onto the internal storage. So its obviously a write lock on this one.

Unfornately I never got a reply from Sony Support. I would be happy hearing that somebody is taking care of this or it's tracked as a bug.

Long story short: Very annoying bug which depreciates a pretty nice phone.

There seems to be a lot of issues with Sandisk SD cards lately. It not only effect Z, but numerous phone owners for other brands as well. The card seems to be "ejected" or not connected even though it's already in the slot. It seems to only effect a certain batch though. There's even a thread on Sandisk forum about it. Try to use SD card from other brands like Kingston, Sony, etc. Try to borrow from your friends and test them out first to make sure it works. Or right after you buy it, test it on the spot.

your issue is writting to the sd card. or more specifically, pasing information to the sd card correctly.

normally i would suggest those with similar problems to repair their Android OS first. But since you already got your Z replace and the smae problem persists, software issue is definately not the case this time round.

I'm not sure how slow is Class 2, since class 4 is the standard where I am. What consumers always mistook is that higher or lower class for SD Card only effect write speed. NOT read speed. Read speed is the same for all classes. I'm very tempted to say that the slow write speed could be the cause of the problem, but I don't have any exerience using class 2 SD on Android, or any mobile phone. But as it stands now, either class 2 is too slow for android or the sd card is having issue receiving & writing data.

see if you can borrow other SD to test it out and tell us how it goes.

good luck
