Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

Hi @User105

Please, first run a backup of the device information as explained here. Then perform a system repair using PC Companion orBridge for MAC. The process will erase all internal memory.You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 80% battery. Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds) Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process. If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP. Keep us updated please, I´m at disposal for any question.

@uliwooly: safe mode as well has the same problem. I apply also ran into touch screen diagnostics. Few of the time it works and most of the time it fails. Am sure it's some thing to do with the latest update. Any other z3 compact users facing this issue.?

Hi @xavinux !

Im facing similar issue as @User105.

Had been using Z3 comapact for a year.

After the recent update, the Back button and Drop-down Noification do not respond.

Had tried ran a backup, followed by PC Companion -Support Zone (by clicking on blue link: Repar phone/tablet).

But issue does not resolve.

Had also tried 'touch screen diagnostics' using Xperia Diagnostics app, nothing wrong with the touch screen.

But Back button and Drop-down Noification are still not working.

Appreciate you could advice!

Your solution don't work either. Am sure it's because of the latest update. I need to restart my phone every time... And together without the drop down notification, I am using my phone to attend the call. Please suggest a solution as soon as possible. Or try to rollback the latest two updates. Or pls share the link for users who wanna do that. Thanks.

And it's not a hardware problem. Touch at that location of back button works fine on the lock screen. Hope there is a solution and we can expect soon.

Please suggest some fix for this or share the link to rollback two of Sony xperia z3 compact updates for users who have this problem. Without back/home button, I can't move between applications and the navigation is complete mess. Every time I have to restart the phone to work on a new app it to return to home screen. This is such an annoying update. Waiting for your reply at the earliest.

Visited sony service center. It's a known issue it seems. Those who are having this issue please visit service center before its too late. Looks like there is a problem with screen panel.

Hi all. Now,I have problem about drop-down notification too. First i try reset my device result to data is loss and can't use drop-down notification yet. I try to change theme & icon from Line Launcher application result to use drop-down slide for home screen only but can use for other application or remain page. And version for my device is same @user105 Apprentice. Please help me for this case. Thank you ((;

@AliceBtBig: If you face this problem soon after you updated the software most likely it has to be the same issue as mentioned above.

Check with Sony service center if it's so. My Sony panel replacement was covered under warranty. Good luck.

You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 80% battery. Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off until you are prompted (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device). Start PC Companion -> Support zone -> Update my phone/tablet -> Blue Repair my phone/tablet -> follow instructions. When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button. The repair or reformat process will start. If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64 bit operating system adjust settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode -> chose Windows 7 or XP. I´m at disposal for any question.
