Xperia ZL camera fault

Xperia ZL. Camera worked fine until this morning, had the phone about 3 weeks. Now there are black specks all across the screen.

They are not on the camera glass, they are in sharp focus, and don't move when you wipe the glass. It looks to me like there's some sort of fault on the sensor screen. The black specks don't show up on any other screen or on existing photos, only on photos taken since this morning. I've done nothing different with the phone, it hasn't got wet, been dropped or anything.

The specks show up on the actual photos, and on videos. If you video and move the camera around, they move slightly.

I've tried knocking the phone on a work surface while the camera is on to see if any of them get dislodged but none of them move. There are a lot of them, about 35, completely ruin any photo I try to take.

Any ideas?

That's probably dust on the image sensor. It's a common problem and usually repaired on warranty. Dust should not get into the camera module at all, so there must be a manufacturing fault of some sorts. May or may not have to do with the famous back plate coming loose.

Some have managed to dislodge a few dust specks by knocking the phone gently against a table etc, but that's not a permanent solution.

The thread is called "dead pixels", but as you already realized, it's not dead pixels but dust on the sensor.
