No sound from media apps in headphones

Hello,

I bought an Xperia Z5 almost a week ago, and I'm very happy with it.

The first day or so, it worked perfectly fine. Now however I'm not getting any sound from media apps in my headphones.

I've tried Youtube, Netflix, Spotify and the preinstalled media apps such as Movie and Album.

Also tried with another set of headphones, still nothing.

I can hear keytaps, ringtones and selection sounds though.

Without the headphones everything works fine.

Is there a setting I might have missed somehow?

Xperia Z5 is not playing the sound through the headphones given with it, phone is detecting it but not playing sound through them, instead still playing through the speakers, pls help

something is going wrong with MM and 3.5jack device detection... most probably detection using ohm resistance is messed up! headphones not working, line out issues...hmm...

Hi @HenrikE,

First of all, when you have a headset connected, can you go to Settings > Sound & notification and make sure that Media volume is turned up?

Could you also test your phone in safe mode and see if you still get no sound in the Music or Album app?

Thanks for the quick answer, but I'm afraid neither solution worked for me.

I have checked the volume settings in the Settings both with and without my headphones, and all volumes are turned up to max.

I did restart in Safe mode, but I'm still not getting any sound from the preinstalled app Album.

The phone jack is broken common problem that song are ignoring as usual. I downloaded soundabout from the app store and use that to force sound to the jack. Its a temperamental workaround

I have been having a similar issue for the last week or so. The phone doesn't recognise the headphones are connected so the radio won't work. I can force my Spotify through the soundabout app so don't think the Headphone Jack is faulty.

I've done the android update and a phone repair through PC Companion. Any ideas?

I also have the exact same problem as @HenrikE. I can hear keytaps, also the radio is working fine. The odd part is, it is working with spotify and facebook app once and then suddenly after some days, it is not working at all. Some people thinks that this is a harware problem but it's not.

Please relay this to the higher ups. Thanks.

Just wanted to add that I tried with bluetooth earbuds, and they're working perfectly fine.

At the moment I have literally no idea what's causing this issue.

As I can hear keytaps in my wired headphones, I can't really believe it's a hardware issue, but as the media is playing through bluetooth, I don't think it's an app stopping media playing either.

It's for sure an HW problem so as u can listen music with BT earbuds, and not with jack 3.5 headphones

It's clearly obvious as it seems if u tried all the things u had to do, as suggested by Rickard !

But u can try to blow, gently, inside jack 3.5 mm or try to clean with something tender into it and then u can be sure that u can't do any other things

Hi @Robertods88, as we've said, we can hear keytaps, calls and FM radio as well. If this is a Hardware Problem, even that will not work. Right? I'm not an expert on Phone Stuctures/Hardware but I don't think there is a different line or specific part for any of that on the Headphone Jack. Bluetooth headphone are working fine, yes, but it does not mean it is a hardware problem.

Hi all,it's my second premium phone getting this issue all of a sudden,one thing l don't understand,how is it that it work with soundabout app?l tried everthing repair,reset,flashtool,anything work only with this app which force it to play in headphone..

if it was a hardware problem,it wouldn't play even with soundabout app...

l'm getting crazy..:smileyconfused:Sony can you please make it clear and give us an answer??

I can hear all notification alerts sound and the music from the phone speaker . When I am using bluebooth headset , I can't hear all apps notification alert sound include SMS , but I can hear the voice communication notification alert sound and hearing the music with bluetooth headset .

Hong Kong Sony repair center can't solve this problem .

I encountered this problem today, that was really boring. 😕

I tried Soundabout, but unsuccessfully for me.

I found a solution with the app Sony Music, the standard one (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.music).

I'm on a french version, but I'll try to give you the good path :

Go to Settings > Music settings > Play with the option DSEE HX (toogle it several times)

For now, with this option disabled, I've sound from Media app (Music, Youtube, VLC for exemple).

Hi, I've been having this issue for a while now. It is 100% a software issue. My earphone/headphones used to play media perfectly through the jack and then one day they would only play notification sounds. I have now got Bluetooth replacements but I can't use AUX cables. I have noticed that sometimes if I play a video or music and then plug my headphones in, the music will play through them for a fraction of a second then stop. Very annoying.

Also, the soundabout app does nothing for me, neither does messing with the audio settings.
