Cannot initialize latest pc companion update for xperia z (error 1601)

I am trying to update my xperia Z for the latest software that was recently released (10.3.1.A.2.67) and during the 2. Prepare stage I repeatedly get the error 1601 stating that the:

Problem:

Unable to run update components on your computer.

Details:

Sony Update Engine failure (error 1601)

Troubleshooting:

Please check your internet connection (Wi-fi, internet settings), as update components need to connect and download large files from the internet, then try again (*).

Please make sure that the programs listed below are allowed to access Internet in your firewall settings:

- Sony PC companion

- Sony Mobile/ Sony Ericsson Update Engine

(*) We also recommend you to restart your computer before trying to update your phone/ tablet again.

I have perfect access to the internet as of this moment with even my avg protection disabled.

My firewall settings have the Sony PC companion program allowed as an exception with the other listed "update engine" not avaliable in the lists to begin with.

My pc was restarted multiple times to make sure the changes were accomodated for. My PC also has the latest java software.

I have also attempted at reinstalling the pc companion software on my pc to no avail.

I have in the past used the pc companion software for the updates that were occasionally released for my phone without any problems until now.

I personally want to avoid using the SUS (update service) to update my phone this time round.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome thanks.

Looks like maintenance is now over.

Update went smoothly with phone working nicely.
