Sony Alpha cameras 25p over HDMI

It is shocking and bizarre Sony's Alpha cameras cannot output 25p over HDMI.

When the camera is in PAL mode and the internal recording is set to 1080p25 the HDMI is always either 1080p50 or 1080i50.

However if the camera is in 24p more then 1080p24 is possibe!

This, as far as I (and my of my peers and colleageus) am concerned is totally nonsensical.

I'd love to have a really meaningful response (not some sort of vague Customer Service "oh that's just the way it is") from Sony as to exactly why this is the case. Is it some sort of strange hardware limitation? Could it be fixed with a firmware update? Will new forthcoming Alpha cameras also have this hinderance? Why do Sony not feel this is important?

Surely it goes without saying that the HDMI output is commonly used not just for monitoring, but also for recording to external recorders. As such, one needs to be able to record the same base frame rate as the internal recording (and even if only recording externally, 25p needs to be supported as it's one of the main international standards!).

1080p selected as the HDMI output.

25p internal selected (HD 1080p25).

But, as reported by a Sony LMD-A170 (for example) the signal is actually 1080p50!

@Marino.Manolo all of them, I think! But I've tested this with an A6500, and I think the A7SII and A7III are the same.

It is probable there is a logic behind that choice, if it is a choice, because it is possible to send the 25p via HDMI (without internal recording) from "4K Output Sel. (Movie)":

That's correct. But it maes absolutely no sense for it not to be possible in HD: 180p25 is such a common format.

What if you want to use the camera in a mdoe where 4K output isn't supported? Or what if your recording device doesn't support HDMI 4K?

I'm having the same issue with an A7sii. Only produces 50p over HDMI. Why?? Has anyone found a fix or workaround for this yet? 50p is such a waste of storage. Is there a firmware update in the works to fix this?

I completely agry with the remark. I want to use my sony a6300 camera in my atem tv studio set to 1080p. 25p.

This version does not have a scaler. Why you did not receive a response ?

There are no sony web manager to respond ? I can't use my alpha 6300 on my atem just because of the impossibility to output 25 p.

Why no firmware update to resolve the problem ? it is absurd....

As far as it goes, if a setting is mentioned in the Help Guide and the menu, it should work as described. Has any of you contacted Sony support about this? If you didn't, I recommend you do so we can get more info about what's going on.

The whole point of this thread is that Sony does not offer this option. We are asking for them to include it. It's not a broken feature, it's a feature that should exist that doesn't.

Using the A7IV with the latest firmware (v3.01) and still don't have the option to output 1080 25p via HDMi. What's even more infuriating is it gives that option if you stream via USB-C, but not HDMi. Go figure. Sony, please add this feature to 1080 as you have done for 4k output.
