Check task manager (Ctrl - Shift - Esc) and find out if any programs are using a lot of CPU time. Also run a spyware and antivirus check to make sure that the computer isn't running malware.

There is also a BIOS upgrade for the S5 on Vaio Link which supposedly addresses some overheating issues. You should be able to access this from Vaio update, alternatively visit this link and check the drivers/updates area.

The "system idle process" is taking the most of the cpu power. It reaches somrtimes 97 (whatever this figure means).
On the perfomance tab. the CPU usage seems to be normal. Between 10 & 4% when idle.

According to Intel, 52 to 56 degrees is acceptable for a Pentium M processor. The fan will start at lower than those temperatures and the speed of the fan will increase if the temperature continues to rise. I've seen temperatures up to about 68C when the machine is being stressed.

At about 93C the processor speed will be throttled to help reduce the temperature (This shouldn't happen unless there is a cooling fan fault or blockage).

At around 99C the system will shut down immediatly.

The Pentium M has a max. operating temperature of 100C

Hope the above is of use and puts your mind to rest a little. If you are still concerned that the temperature is too high then you could ring Vaio-Link and see what they say.
