GRX416G, no lights on monitor.

a few days ago the lights on my notebook went out...

The screen is pretty much pitch black, if I put a lamp really close to the screen and put my head two inches away I can use it.

Its like being in a room at night and then someone turns of the lights.

I have noe idea whats wrong, the computer has been working perfectly both before and during this problem. I updated the video card driver, but the problem did not go away.:smileycry:

One thing, when I press the "button" that turns of the screen/notebook when I flip down the screen, the screen flickers and the lights come back for like a millisecond.

Hope someone have a solution to my problem,.:smileypraying:
The warranty has expired, so I don't wanna send it in to sony

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but this sounds like a dead Inverter...

Visit VAIO-Village - they may be able to help you with a DIY out-of-warranty repair instead of sending it back to Sony and having to pay a fortune on repair bills:smileyskull:

Yep,

It's a dead inverter or lamp!

Needs to be repaired!

BTW Woody, do you know how long these LCD (X-black) screens usually last for? I'm asking out of curiosity....:smileywink:

Thanks guys, I will post a tread on vaio village.

A lamp/inverter doesn't sound to serious, does anyone have any idea of how much it would cost to repair, just out of curiosity.

I found some similar treads on vaio village, and they confirm that it is the lamp or inverter, I also found a few links to sites that sell vaio parts, but I couldn't find lamps or inverters.

Does my model have a different name in the US, i had trouble finding it, the grx models start at 5xx on most sites.

Sorry to be off-topic, but it is an emergency...

For the last week or so the Garfield cartoon has not appeard in my e-mail, I mean, I do receive the mail from ucomics, but its like they forgot to insert the comic!

Do u have the same problem?
