Start Up, Beeps then nothing

Hey there 8-)

I have a PCG-FR415B. I was using it fine this morning, turned it off to go shopping and when I returned, I turned it on. Imagine my surprise when it beeped at me - one long, three short, three short, one long and then did nothing, not even a single pixel on the screen, and then I have to unplug and remove thebattery to turn it off.

I have been all over the websites and google looking for a decode of these beeps but to no avail.

Any help at all would be appreciated

Try opening the trap door underneath the notebook and reseating the memory.

Hey there 8-)

I just did that and have restarted it a few times. Twice it did the same thing, one it just beeped 4 long beeps and once there was no beeping and the screen did light up but showed nothing.

Hey Kee-Lo 8-)

I took out one of the memory modules and I am now getting in XP so I guess either that module or the memory socket is the issue.

Thanks for putting me on the scent of memory anyway 8-)

No problem, glad you could at least get into XP.
You're right about the memory, ti could be that or the slot.
Is it still under warranty?

No, all you need to do is register with VAIO Link, but as their site doesn't work it's a phone call Monday I'm afraid.
