topic ati mobility infinate loop in PCs & Accessories

I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my laptop (VGN-S2XP) - I was trying to install linux (which didn't work - whole new bunch of mares)... but anyway - the installation program seems to have re-configured the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 because now when I start it up I get a blue screen saying that the driver has entered an infinate loop and to shut down the computer.
I can re-start in safe mode which uses a VGA adaptor or something, and in safe mode I can delete the ATI drivers. When I do this - windows starts up, but only in vga mode which is a little annoying...
I don't know that much about graphics cards - but is it possible that I have re-configured it? and if so how to I re-configure it back? when I install the drivers it just crashes.

If you help me I will tell you a joke, maybe.

ben
