Three or four times a day I get a crash, a blue screen and message driver_irql_not_less_or_equal.
What can I do about it.

Check in your device manager, if there are any conflicts (Yellow mark).

The error message states, that the driver of a hardware-device (such as graphic-card) adresses an interrupt port that seems to be in use by another device.

Within a few hours I had 4 or 5 crashes, especially when I send a photograph to a hotmail adres.
There were no yellow marks at the devices. So you suggest.
I also set the bios settings to default f2 f9 and f10, this was the first time I looked at this page. Probably it stood in the default settings already.
I also get the message: process has locked pages, I've got 51 blocked pages. What is that?
And the error message: thread stuck in device driver.

Please help me.

Technet has a few results for this, and it looks like one of your drivers is being too clever (or other way round in my opinion.)

I printed out the pages about troubleshooting specific stop messages. More or less I know the problem but it is not easy for me with my poor knowledge about hardware of the computer to find a sollution, the steps I have to make.
What I did yesterday at the end of the evening I installed the latest display driver of the sony-vaio link.. A version of march 2003, on my computer was a version of 2001.It was I believe not assigned, not known or something like that. The new version was known by microsoft (something like NVD460101 driver).
I didn't have the time to see if the problem is solved now.
Earlier I set the hardwareacceleration to none, but that didn't solve the problem.
EXTRA
1. I don't know the problem about "process has locked pages"
2. Is it usuallly that on the keyboard above the two there is a " instead of @. It looks the positions are changed. In the netherlands the @ always stands above the 2.

Hmm, never very easy to sort these problems out.

Sounds like one of your drivers is corrupt or not working with the hardware correctly.

Try and remove the offending driver by booting into safe mode (F8) before the Windows logo.

Then uninstall the graphics driver and restart.

Put the new driver back on.

Your keyboard is in US, you need to put it in UK (usually in Control Panel > Keyboards.

Sorry that was not the solution, I removed the former driver of the graphics adaptor and installed the new driver. Since than I had twice a crash during working with paint, working on a picture. I really don't know what to do next.
There was also a crash when I left the computer for a few minutes alone.

By the way I can,t find GB keyboard setting after control panel-keyboard, there is only something about hitting the keys (speed) and information about the hardware.

During typing a new reaction, the computer crashed.

The problem with the keyboard is solved.

It's pitty that my Sony computer doesn't work properly.
My wife on the other side of the table plays "scrabble" , a word game on a two year old supermarkt notebook from LIDL (a Targa notebook) and has no problems.
I can't even download this legal game on my computer, it says an error about srabble.exe.
I even can't be proud of my new notebook (just three months old) against my wife her notebook.

Should windows XP be loaded again, With the computer came only a recovery disc.
Is there something with the IRQ or BIOS settings, or is that to dangerous to look at.

Please help me.

I think I had seven or eight crashes this evening , to give the most information after stop 0x000000d1 are four parameters. The first and the last differs everytime there is an error. The second and third parameter stays always the same0x0000002 and 0x000000.
Again a crash during waiting, and watching the last minutes of the football game.

I hope you have something about this information.

I'm starting again this evening , with one crash already typing the rate of feedback on the vaio site.
Do you have any further suggestions for my problem about the driver_irql .......

In the overall page I see 10 replies, and when I opened my problem I see 11 replies but there are only 10 replies , where is the missing reply.?

First of all: Please do not lose faith in your diserable VAIO. The machines are great and normally without any flaw.

In your case I am sorry about all your troubles. Please try to recover your original factory settings by using the supplied recovery-DVD.
Sony makes sure the supplied build on the DVD is without a fault, so I guess you installed something that is not appreciated by Windows.

I'm sorry I didn't reply right away. I was on holliday with my notebook and the crashes kept on going.
First I want to workout my home-videos and pictures, so I can clean-up my notebook, format C and paly the recovery DVD, supplied by Sony and wait a while downloading other software to see if the problem is solved than.

It's a long time ago, but my problem is not solved yet.
The blue screens keeps on coming, even when the computers isn't touched by me , just if it stands while I'm drinking a cup of coffee. I've installed the recovery cd many times, but there isn't an evening without a crash. On the supermarket-notebook of my wife are the same software programmes, no external hardware and it function well.
I, m very annoyed with this computer, it's very expensive, but rasther a monday-morning product, a b-choice, etc.
I regret I bought a Sonyyyyy.

Isn't there anything, a program, software, steps to check, etc.... to track down the error at the moment it crashes, so I can tackle the problem, I get tired of getting information from Windows, etc.

I'm very disappointed, when I'm browsing through the internet I can live with it, but when I want to spend hours with video-editting, I sometimes want to throw the notebook through the window.

11 months and 9 day , Not one day has it failed . PCV PW1/G .

yes indeed, every day it crashes, I can see it coming, my mouse movement is getting slower, the movement is not fluently, it than crashes, lately the screen stands still and I have to restart it, because the mouse doesn't work and I can't use the keyboard.
