Hi all, i have the Sony Vaio K215B and just wondered if it was possible to upgrade the video card in it as it comes with a pathetic 64mb integrated.

Thanks in advance

Dear Fish,

I'm afraid you cannot upgrade the graphics card or its RAM!

Both the ATi card and its memory are combined into one chip which is part of the motherboard and therefore not upgradable!

On a happier note, you should find that this is enough for most puposes. I run DOOM 3 quite happily (40 fps) on my VGN-A115Z which also has only 64 Mb RAM.

To increase graphics performance I suggest you do the following:

1. Add more RAM, this is the biggest speed bottleneck.
2. Try the Omega ATi Drivers (www.omegadrivers.net). I have been running these for a while without problems and the speed increases can be dramatic (Serenescreen Marine Aquarium went from 80 fps to 290 fps). NOTE: Some peaple have reported problems using them and DO NOT USE THE OVERCLOCKING facility, laptop chips cannot take it!

Hope this helps!

CW

Check your BIOS settings as well just in case, some of Sonys laptops actually borrow system RAM, and you can change how much they borrow. I forget which ones do and don't have this so you would have to look. Otherwise Woodys suggestions is as good as it gets I'm afraid.
