VAIO AW11Z/B: UJ230AS stopped detecting any media inserted

Hello everybody,

I am having a problem with my Matshita UJ 230-AS drive.

I have been using it rather rarely, but it did work fine. I also installed the 1.01 firmware update patch.

Recently I noticed that the drive could not detect empty media inserted into the drive. After 5-10 tries the media is detected and than in approx. 50% of cases I am able to burn data on it. Data media (full) cannot be detected for reading.

I tried to look for a new firmware (as I think that the problem could be firmware related), but 1.01 seems to be the latest update available.

Is anybody having a similar problem? Or maybe even solved it?

Oh, I still forgot to write that I already cleaned the lens and also tried to use system recovery: both without success.

Well, just for the case that somebody has the same problem: FW upgrade to 1.11 solved the problem. Funny thing that the new upgrade is presented as 'Win7 update' though has nothing to do with OS...
