The menus do not appear on my TV screen when I press home on the remote for my HT-XF9000 Sound Bar

My HT-XF9000 sound bar is connected to my TV using an HTMI lead - using the ARC 'port' on the TV and the TV ARC 'port' on the Sound Bar. When I press Home on the remote for the sound bar the menu does not appear on the TV screen, as it is meant to (according to the instructions). The functions on the remote work - changing sound mode etc. - but this is by guesswork only as nothing appears on the TV. The HDMI is a brand new 4K cable, Ethernet compatible (18Gbps) and supports 1080p. 3d and 4K signals.
