Sony Cybershot vs Interchangeable lens compact

I currently own a Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 and am reasonably happy with it. However I have been looking at the  new range of Compact System cameras which are able to use interchangeable lenses. Would I have more flexibilty with one of the newer cameras such as Sony Nex - C3 or Sony Nex - 5N.

Camera is mostly used for a variety of everyday shots (from portraits to landscapes) but on holiday next year I am visiting South Africa and hope to photograph wildlife.

Hello barryellis - welcome to the Sony Forums

In general, there will be a lot more flexibility with these cameras and in particular, the NEX-5N is very adaptable to wildlife shots and also offers the capability to record HD videos which continually focus to keep the moving object as detailed as possible (this model has no mirror sitting inbetween the lens and the sensor unlike a conventional camera which means that focusing for both photos and videos is much faster). Also, the interchangeable lenses that you mention mean you have a choice of E-Series lenses:

I know that the wildlife in these is a little different to what you will experience in South Africa but I hope it gives you an idea about the capabilities of the camera

Maybe worth adding that the NEX-5N often comes bundled with an SEL-1855. This is a good option for general-purpose use but I'd recommend also getting the SEL-55210 as the ideal partner to it, rather than the more expensive, one-size-fits-all 18-200 option.

It's a good sharp lens for wildlife and gives nice, smooth defocussed backgrounds, as I think the examples posted shows.
