Hi Liz
If it's an A-mount lens you can use the LA-EA1 adaptor:

I can't be sure if it is an A mount lens without seeing it; I'd suggest taking it into a Sony store and asking there, before buying.
Cheers

thanks Mick for being so quick. It says A before the string of f numbers right near the screw mount. but will locate a store if one near me and check the lense out and look at the site too. As it cost so much back in the nineties and has sat there in the cupboard while I used the 'latest' sony compacts I feel would like to trial it before launching into '3rd' zoom!!!!!!!!!!!!The other is a Takuma K mount used on the pentax ME Super and a bit heavier.
Thanks Liz
If you have an aperture ring it's one of the older autofocus Sigmas (later ones have no aperture ring) and the 'A' is most likely the setting you use for automatic aperture selection by the camera. Reading your original post again, the MZ-30 you used it on would have been a Pentax K or PK fitting, so the LA-EA1 won't be of any use to you.
There are adapters for Pentax K to Sony E-mount – this is what you need for the NEX5 and while some are better than others, you won't be able to use your autofocus.
Maybe you're ok with that and don't mind fiddling with a few settings to get it to work..? Quite a few die-hard Pentax users are happy to put up with a little inconvenience in order to use their beloved old lenses and the RainbowImaging adaptors seem to be the ones they're going for:

Good luck with it, whatever you decide
