I think the preinstalled equalizer which can be found in the music app settings is Google's stock equalizer. I noticed that sounds are loud enough when the equalizer is turned off. The Thund quality gets better when when you turn on the equalizer but volume drops substantially. I know from other phones that the equalizer setting 'FX Booster' improves volume but not in the case of the Xperia L3. Could something be done to improve loudness when equalizer is activated (both speaker and headphones)?
