As iPad is using an entirely different operating system compared to Android, I would recommend that you get in touch with Apple in this case, as you are going to transfer data from an Android device to an iOS device and you can't use the Xperia transfer application for this (it can only be used when transferring data to your Xperia device, not from).
Contacts are fairly easy and can be synced using your Google account, so first of all, open up the Contacts application in your Xperia L1 and tap the three dots in the top right corner > tap Import/Export > tap on "Export to SD card or internal storage > tap save in the bottom right corner > wait for the export to be done (it will save all contacts that are locally stored on your device into a file). Tap the three dots in the top right corner again > Import/Export > tap on "Import from SD card or internal storage" > tap the file that you created (contacts.vcf is the default name) > choose your Google account and wait for the contacts to be imported.
Now you have to add your Google account in your iPad and when it has a network connection, it will synchronize the contacts from your Google account.
