Hi,
I bought my Sony Xperia Neo V last Sunday and I update it to ICS immediately. All aspects of the phone are working right.
I tried the Portable Wifi Hotspot feature today. I configured the Wifi hotspot (Network SS ID and password). Then turned the Portable Wifi hotspot ON. No issues so far.
I connected to this WiFi network from my iPad. The connection was successful. But subsequently I am not able to access the internet on the iPad. I then tried browsing on my phone and that still works. Why is the WiFi hotspot not enabling access to the internet on the device that connects to the hotspot? The same behavior is observed while accessing the WiFi hotspot from my laptop as well.
I even tried reloading my GPRS and MMS settings from Vodafone and still I found the same behavior.
Is there a solution to this issue? Please suggest.

Solved! Go to Solution.
This is the problem; Vodafone Live is a WAP APN and not an Internet APN. This will result in very limited internet functionality. I would advise contacting Vodafone to request the Internet APN be sent to you and to ensure that they have the tethering function enabled for you.

Do you know what APN you are using (Main Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point names) and have you checked with your network to ensure they have enabled this for you on their end?

Yes. I am using "Vodafone Live" as the APN and this is enabled on my connection. I am able to browse through web pages on Edge on the phone. The WiFi hotspot feature does not work.

Hi Sam,
Thanks for your answer. I too think that must be the issue. I realised this in an indirect way. I found that GTalk and Whatsapp apps worked only when I am connected to WiFi. They did not work otherwise (through Vodafone Live). Some googling suggested that Vodafone Live may be the reason.
I have contacted the Vodafone helpdesk and asked them to activate Vodafone Mobile connect (which is an Internet APN) on my number. That would ge activated only from my next billing cycle (10th of every month). Will have to wait till then to test the WiFi hotspot feature. Thanks for your prompt support. I will get back if I still face the issue.
