kdf-e5011e, Ireland, this 6 year old TV has no "Digital Tuning Option"

Can I update the software, or is it a case of having to use a Set Top Box.?

I presume you mean KDF-E50A11E?

According to the specifications, this model does have a digital DVB-T tuner.  Have you tried retuning the Digital channels as shown on Page 29 of your manual here: -

Reset Language and Country.

At bottom of page 34 of GB manual it says " DVB functions on available for DVB countries (page 2)"

Page 2 says DVB countries are " UK,Italy,France, Spain, Germany, Finland and Sweeeden, (Sept 2005)"

So Republic of Ireland is not Included

Hi just try set supported countries (i select the france), than you can see the digital set box line in your menu.

@musthy1981. hmmm,

this is not my set, a neighbour's and just yesterday I tuned in a set top box for him as the local transmitter was turned on on 1 Oct.  Would be interested to stisfy my own curiosity if changing the country would give me digital reception on the TV. Of course here in IRL we are using a different transmission spec than  would have been the case those 6 years ago when the set was new.
