FS315S Vaio Laptop

A lovely laptop! very pleased with it indeed except:

Where the hell are the OS and driver CD's?

Having just spent a *vast* amount of money on this; this consumer is NOT amused. Come ON guys...

Anyone out there have any similar experiences? Perhaps there's a sony op here who can comment.

cheers

tom

Hi Tom and welcome to Club Vaio.

I am afraid that you have to create your own recovery disks.:smileysad:

Click Start, All Programs, VAIO Recovery Tools, and then click VAIO Recovery CD Wizard.

I would advise making at least a couple of sets to be safe.

done that - with my own expensive blank DVD's

what I want to do is repartition the system for dual boot purposes and a recovery CD is useless in that respect.

I have exactly the same VAIO, and I got mine with a recovery DVD.:smileyconfused:

If you want repartion it, then you need a Partition software. I use Acronis Partition Expert LE 2003. It works fine for me and it's freeware. The best way to use it, is to burn a boot cd with Acronis. Because you can use it without a running system then.

thanks for the tip

all things considered though I'd really rather have the software I bought on a CD...... However, the immediate problem is sorted out - I'll just have to take it up with Sony.

that is interesting. with my pcg-grt815e i got a recovery disk, which takes about twelve minutes to restore the thing to 'new' and remove all my mistakes. it even has a few extras, like custom partitioning in 10g jumps.

i try not to mess it up any more as it's a bore having to initiate the hotfix and then install service pack 2

sony vaio is the posh totty of laptops, hoojum cubit is the posh totty of desktops, suse 10 is the posh totty of operating systems and opera is the posh totty of browsers. put them all together and you have the superlative posh totty of computer systems.

you can repartition the hdd by pressing f10 when you see the vaio logo on start up.
then comes the vaio recovery tool and you can then choose some different things.
i don't have got dvds too, i was very suprised about that, sony has to change this.
i tried to repartition with partitio magic, but my sony doesn't work after that, he only works when i repartition with the sony recovery utility.
