GRX - Second memory slot.

Just noticed at Vaio village that another unfortunate soul has a problem with their GRX memory slots.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

I have decided to soldier on with the one working slot, I guess I should count my blessings that I have 2X512Mb.

Since removing the second stick evyrything has returned to normal albeit with 512Mb rather than my desired 1.0Gb.

I think I was prepared for this by reading earlier posts so it is not a great shock.

I feel let down by Sony due their inability to acknowledge the problem exists extensively.

By looking at the Acer site I have realised that a £1500 laptop is actually higher specced than a £2500 Sony.

My Sony brand allegiance has taken a hammering.

I was going to say sorry Sony but any future laptop purchases will be elsewhere, but hell they owe me an apology.

Well for £1000 you can get a lot more from other brands than Sony, sad but true

Edit: cool I fixed the page counter thingy. Now everyone can read William's reply

William, have you tried the 'solution' that was posted on the American site? Apparently, if you put a piece of cardboard between the memory slots and the outside casing (trial & error for correct thickness) the problem should disappear.

A little amateurish I know but losing 512Mb ram really hurts :anguished:

Hi Dave,

Yes I have but then my initial greed for ram wore off.

The cardboard fix has worked well for some but others have reported that this is only a temporary fix and eventually it won't boot from either socket.

Maybe it is all only temporary but time will tell.

The machine is too good to simply bin - how about a professional repair. If you know what the problem is it shouldn't cost too much to sort - should it?

Oh I totally agree Dave, the GRX is a FINE machine, but it's going to be costly to have it seen to.

Maybe a local Sony repairer might do it, check technology parks, http://www.yell.co.uk and Thomson Local.

Wow, it must be something if there's a yahoo group.

How many members?
I think it's about time someone from Sony took their head out of the sand.
