I have a notebook VGN-S2XP.
I install windows 2000 Pro instead of the XP that Sony wants you to install
Everything works perfectly, but I feel my notebook is sometimes a little slow. So I check the CPU speed with 2 softwares (Sandra from Sisoft and Intel Processor frequency ID utility version 7.1).
They both gave me the same result :
- CPU expected 1.8 Ghz
- CPU measured : 0,59 Ghz
I changed all the Power Management settings to max performance, but still the same results.
Does anyone knows why I have such result ? Do you think it's because I run windows 2000 and not XP ?
Please help

You need to install the Sony Shared Libraries and Sony Notebook Setup.
Thanks. It works now at 1,8 Ghz:smileyhappy:
But now there is a problem : autonomy with battery goes to 3h30 to 2h40
The problem, I can't make anything for the CPU to slowdown when I'm on battery. The normal Power Management don't do anything and the VAIO power Management doesn't work. Just the viewer of the VAIO Power Management works.
Thats the problem that a lot of people have when they use a non-VAIO OS
So you think there is n way to use this VAIO without XP ?:smileycry:
Everything works perfectly (including bluetooth and wifi which took me hours to find out how
). But now I have to decide between :
- use win 2000 and having normal autonomy but a CPU working 1/3 of it's power
- use win 2000 and having very short autonomy (now 1H45
) but a CPU working 100%
use XP and have a normal notebook, but a f... OS
I hate:smileydevil:
Is it like this when you vuy a Sony notebook ?
Simply use XP pro......not much different in interface to the win 2000......it is the applications that matter, and if they run on XP pro as good as w2000, why complicate things unnecessarily? If you want hassle free OS operations, get yourself an IBM laptop:smileywink:
Yeah I'm not too sure why people have such a phobia, the OS is as good as Win2k, you can even make it look like Windows 2000.
ok, ok... I finally migrate to XP Pro
In fact I didn't want to because I didn't know XP as well as 2K. But after looking at it, I realized that ou can have a normal interface in XP, not something look like a Playmobil game
So I have XP Pro, with a "normal" windows look, and I decided which windows assistant I want or not, and it's great.
So thanks for your advices
Told you didn't I?
It's never as bad you'd think.
