HELP! the fan on my note book is very noisy and continuous from about ten seconds after signing in to my account!!! it is very annoying. When i first started using my notebook a year ago it was silent!!!! is this normal, anything that can be done to quiten it down???
Hi
Two things to look at:
1) Check that the air vents below and at the back are clear - suck them out with a vacuum cleaner or use compressed air to blow them out.
2) Look at the speed the processor is running at. My guess it is now stuck on 3.06 (performance) and my preference would be for adaptive.
Look here: start>power options>vaio power management.
I use speedswitchXP which gives easy access to processor control - nice free program.
Download it here.
HTH - I have a K115Z fyi.
I have the same problem.
This is what happens with Pentium IV. Maybe reducing the processor speed can help a little, but you will always have the sensation of being inside Apollo XIII at liftoff 🙂
My girlfriend has the same model and the fan works very hard!
I put it down to all the heat from a 3.06 processor abeit a mobile one:smileygrin:
I have the same model and my fan is practically silent even when it is working hard using the disk cleanup (despite breaking through 70 degrees). If the fan is loud it is not housed correctly or its fluid bearings need looking at. Clean up the vents best you can and switch to adaptive as GB suggests
Thanks for the posts!!!, I have reduced my processor speed to adaptive and will see how it goes. I have spoken to someone else meanwhile and they suspect the systems thermostat, as the fan should run when internals get hot, i will see how it goes
My girlfriend's internals always run hot. Her fan is very active but the laptop runs fine SO FAR
I moved into VAIO Power Management from "performance" (or something like this) to adaptive and now fans are running full speed for a shorter time, only when a full usage of the CPU is required.
It's a great improvement, although when fans are on you can hear them loudly
