I have a new VAIO VPCSA3N with Gobi 3000 WWAN modem. I've just recently noticed (when trynig to use 3G modem for thee first time at a conferece) that the modem is able work only on a soft surface or my laps!
The reason for this is that there is a hardware swith in the 3G slot, which probably cuts of power source when the 3G cover/lid is open (not the one you slide the SIM card in but the one that covers the whole thing). The problem is that the little pin on the cover that is supposed to press the swtich when the cover is in place does not press it all the way down (it's missing like 1 milimiter I think). As a result sometimes I have a 3G modem, sometimes I don't. The cover stays firmly in place though when pressed it goes down a bit (the missing distance I think). There is no sign of any kind of damage to the cover ot the mother board. Plus, as I recall I had this problem from the very beginning just did not realize it - I thought the reason for which the modem does not swith on (absent also in the Device Manager) is because there is no SIM card (that's what VAIO Smart network error message suggested).
Does onyone have a similar problem?
Yes, same here. Did you find a way to keep the plastic cover pressed?
Thanks in advance.
