Why is there a piece of plastic occyping a part of the screen?

Мне одно не понятно, зачем разработчики этого телефона оставили внизу телефона кусок пластика без клавиш, зато они занимают часть экрана, аадля чего тогда такое огромное место осталось под экраном???

One thing is not clear to me why the developers of this phone left a piece of plastic without keys at the bottom of the phone, but they occupy part of the screen, but for what then such a huge place remained under the screen ???

The phone wouldn't look half as good if there was only a top "bar" with camera stuff, etc and the screen completely to the bottom. The phone simply looks better with a bar on the top and bottom because it makes it look longer and in exchange thinner, more elegant, what was one of the main marketing points.
