Security updates is code being added to your phone that updated pre-existing code or adds additional code. It's obvious that the Google's monthly security patch broke a security feature on our phones.
I don't know which is better. Getting security benefits to our phones and another feature doesn't work or outdates security code, but keep feature.
This is technology now unfortunately. Google Nexus Bootloops, Samsung battery explosions, Apple iPhone X camera lens cracks plus purposely slowing down phones. No one company is perfect. Look at cars, they aren't perfect and they've been building for decades. Want to know why? Consumers don't give them time to make thinks perfect. Consumers are always pushing on having the latest and greatest and then some and then some again. This means more testing in the same amount of time. So that means hiring more people. Probably a reason why phones and cars retail prices continue to sky rocket.
