Death of my mate, wife can’t get into phone

Hi All, my old mate died suddenly recently and his wife would like to get into his phone for the photos they had. It’s a Sony Experia, I’m not sure which model. Any advice would be appreciated!

Sorry for the slow replies, I'm having terrible trouble signing into my Sony account.

Thanks for all the suggestions. the situation is compounded by my late pal's indifference to anything tech', so we don't know if he had a google account or any form of backup.  All we have is a phone we can't get into and no one to ask about passwords or backups.

Try connecting it using the USB to a computer, you “might” be able to transfer the data to it.
