Is it true that the autofocus function on the SAL500F80 is not possible to use with the Nex 5 + alpha adapter?
Want to know before I buy one.
Many thanks.
That is correct, the SAL500F80 will be unable to use the autofocus system even with the mount adaptor with the NEX.
The following lenses are suitable to use but bear in mind the auto focus would be slower than the DSLR's
Looking at it, if you could, go for the SAL70300G and a SAL20TC which may still work but cannot find any info to state it would.
Hope that gives you some insight.
Thank you so much for your informative reply. Too bad autofocus doesn't work becasue it is a beautiful lens
I asked the same question regarding the SAL85F14 lens... here is sony's response:
Unfortunately, AF is not possible with this combo. The NEX camera does not have a mechanical AF motor pin and neither does the LA-EA1, but the camera can AF using lenses that have a built in AF motor like a SSM or SAM system.
(the SAL lens has a screw-drive motor)
so only SSM and SAM lenses will AF.
thanks robox3000 for the info. too bad! it would make an awsome combo...
