KD-55AF9 Not turning on unless I unplug from the mains

I plugged in a new HDMI device a few days ago. Since then I haven't been able to turn the TV on unless I unplug it from the mains. I have now removed the new device incase it created some form of conflict but this doesn't seem to have resolved the problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I wanted to avoid doing a full reset but will do it if that is the only option. Thanks

Are you running the latest software version on your TV?

Hi Joe, I did check to see if it needed a software update but all appears to be up to date. Thanks

The software version was released yesterday, so make sure you have the same version number (v6.5042).

If you already updated yesterday, then try clearing the cached data (under Device Preferences - Storage - Internal Shared Storage - Cached data) then restart by holding power.

Hi Joe, thank you getting back to me. I have just checked again to see if there is an update available. But at the moment the TV tells me it is up to date. I am not sure how to confirm which version it is currently running. What do you advise? Thanks Paul O'Leary

Hi guys,

I'm experiencing the same problem. When I turn on the TV the screen remains black. I can only use the Home button to navigate to my TV channels and watch the tv programme via channel preview. As soon as I choose a channel to watch in full screen, the screen turns black and the sound turns off too.

It says I'm running the latest software update:

PKG6.5016.0631EUA

@pauolear0 The update download page always has the 2 update methods (from the TV itself and using a laptop + USB stick).

Usually, it takes a while for the TV to "see" the update, so give the USB method a try.

Not sure if this applies to you too @Stetri since you haven't shared the model with us yet.

Morning Joe,

Thanks for explaining about the update methods. I did try to update via a memory stick. But using my laptop I have to encrypt any plugged in memory. When plugged in to the TV I could not seem to find out how to put in a password.

Luckily yesterday the TV told me it had an update which I have run.

Before I updated the software the problem seems to have reduced. Only on some occasions was the unit not turning on. Hopefully the update will rectify the problem, I will continue to monitor the issue and return here if I continue to see any problems.

Thank you for your help.

Regards

Paul O'Leary
