Sony A8H Atmos DD+ sound dropouts

Hi guys,

Sony AH8 connected by eARC to Yamaha RX-A2A received.

When playing Atmos content from the streaming apps e.g. Disney+, I get sound drops for about 1 second about every 10 mins. If I switch to Do my Digital instead of Plus then sound ok which would leave to believe this is some sort of Atmos sync or signal issue.

Any ideas?

Does it happen on the latest software version as well?

Hi Joe,

Yes I have latest firmware. I've found by reading over on the AVSforum that if all WiFi is disabled, connect by LAN and an android restart that I no longer suffer from the dropouts. However even if connected by LAN but WiFi on then I get dropouts again.

Fortunately I connect by LAN anyway but it does seem strange that I and many others have this issue only when WiFi is on and with Dolby Plus on for Atmos etc.

Double-check that you have the latest software version since the TV can't see the actual latest one sometimes. I don't have your full model number so I can't find out myself.

Also try removing everything from the back of the TV and unplug it for a few minutes, if the issue is due to some electrical interference, that should solve it.

Hope this helps!

Hi Joe,

Yes I have the latest software of PKG6.5042.xxxx which Sony say is the latest for my KD55A8.

I have swapped cables out and restarted etc but still have the issue if I have WiFi on used or not. If WiFi disabled and reboot then no issue. Others over on AVSforum have reported the same issue.

Try clearing the cached data (under Device Preferences - Storage - Internal Shared Storage - Cached data) then restart by holding power

Clearing the cache usually improves performance and removes any problematic temp files and such, so hopefully it'll work here.

My Atmos sound dropouts are back again. This is really annoying the hell out if me now.

Does it happen with a specific app/source or is it with all of them?

You mentioned the dropouts are back, but is that after clearing the cache and also having WiFi turned off?

Hi Joe,

Clearing cache and Android reboot did seem to cure it with WiFi off. To early to know if cured as it may return. I'm also changing hdmi to Ultra fast certified just in case that is contributing. Will update once that arrives and is tested.

Workaround works good but means cannot have WiFi on. In my case doesn't matter as I'm wired LAN so for me it's solved but in reality it's a workaround.

Thanks for the help.
