When setting up, I was only given the option of selecting ‘England’ or ‘Kent’ as my region. I don’t live in Kent, so how can I change the option to show my actual region ?
At present, we can’t get any HD channels on YouView, presumably because we can’t select the correct region.
We live about 2 miles from a transmitter and can get all available HD channels on Freesat (via Humax).
(I’ve enabled Wi-Fi location, but an still seeing Kent as my region)
Hi,
Open the settings menu and look for an entry called "initial set-up".
Run the initial se-up again and select the correct region.
Cheers
Peter
Which transmitter are you two miles from?
How wildly different from where you actually live is Kent?
Hi @royabrown2
Our nearby transmitter (2 miles to the north of us) is Heathfield - one of the ‘biggies’.
We’re in the centre of East Sussex.
Does that help ?
Thanks
Dez
Well, you are near Kent....
Why not just try both options, and see which one you prefer?
But in general, a choice at that level won’t affect whether you get the HD channels or not; 2 miles from the transmitter, you should be able to pull them in on a piece of wet string. Maybe the proximity is ‘deafening’ the TV?
And ignore ‘cable’ and use aerial, plus digital if you get a digital or analogue choice there.
Hi @royalbrown2
Thanks for your reply.
Retaining my present erroneous region is an option of course.
However, like many, I’m unable to access ITV Hub, All4 and perhaps other apps I haven’t yet investigated. Both of the above load, play adverts and then buffer endlessly.
I’m very wary about performing a reset, in case I make matters worse, so is it possible to make these apps work without performing one?

Here is the official YouView advice for this sort of issue:-

No guarantees, but worth a try.
Hi again @royalbrown2
Thanks again for coming to the rescue ! I’ll give the link a go and hope for a long lasting solution!
It does seem that ‘non-working’ apps are a regular feature with Sony TVs and the company are loathe to do anything about it. Perhaps the unloved YouView is at the heart of these problems. Other makes who don’t employ YV seem not to have these issues.

These apps are supplied through YouView, even if you are using them on the non-YouView side of these sets, so yes the problems can be laid at their door.
But in fairness, the inability to return after showing the first set of adverts has plagued All4 for years, shifting from platform to platform in a game of whack-a-mole as All4 fix it on one platform, only to then see it break on another.
We had it on our Samsungs for months, and just after it got fixed, the BBC iPlayer stopped working on certain Samsungs, including ours, for a few months.
The problem with the commercial channels is that the programmes come from one source, and the adverts, tailored to the region, or the viewer demographic, or whatever, from another.
I have often remarked on how peculiar it is that the much more complex switch to the adverts never fails, and the simple switch back to the programme often does.
Perhaps they should employ the team who implemented the switching to, to implement a better mechanism for switching back; while they have concentrated on ensuring the ads are shown, as that is where the channel’s money comes from, people won’t watch at all if the programmes don't come back after the ads, which also hurts them financially if they can’t guarantee the advertisers an audience.
This seems to be a point the channels have missed... 😢
