XF90 / XF9005 won't upgrade from USB

Hi,

As per the subject really - I have an XF9005 which was upgraded to the Oreo firmware (6.6510) when it was re-released by Sony.  That process went flawlessly but brought with it some issues which I hope are corrected in the most recent firmware (6.6520).

However, when I attempted to upgrade to that firmware via USB (the online upgrade from the TV insists I am on the current version) using the same USB stick as before, the upgrade process screen does not show and I instead get the normal 'USB device detected' screen, which asks me if I want to open the device in Audio/Video/etc.

It doesn't seem to detect the firmware and start the update process.

I followed the instructions on the firmware update page on the Sony website - the file is in the root of the device and named as per the website.  The USB was formatted as a Windows exFAT device.  I am using the exact same USB stick with which I completed the first upgrade.

I've tried using the different USB ports on the side of the TV, re-formatting the USB and re-copying the firmware onto the device, switching the TV to standby and back on with the stick both in and out of the TV and done a full reboot with the stick both in and out of the TV.

I have zero clue how to debug this or get it working - can anyone offer any advice, please?

Thanks!

Hi @Tadgy.

I don’t know if it helps but I upgraded to v6.6520 with a USB formatted to NTFS inserted in the 3.0 HDD port. I had to perform a soft reset (hold down the remote Power button for at least 10 seconds until you see Power Off displayed on the screen) before the update started.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll give it a try with an NTFS filesystem, but I don't believe that's the issue - when formatted with exFAT, the device seems to be mounted fine since the TV offers to open the filesystem in one of the various apps it has.

I've also tried the reboot thing several times - with the stick in when it reboots, with the stick out and put in after the reboot... no joy.

Will post again if the NTFS filesystem gets it working.  Assume it doesn't and keep posting suggestions/help!

(Replying to my own post...)

The NTFS filesystem got it updating - thanks for the suggestion!

I wonder why it wouldn't upgrade from the exFAT formatted device - especially when it's obviously able to mount the exFAT partition.  Answers on a postcard!
