how do i photograph the moon?

i have a sony cybershor w210, i want to photograph the moon at night, but it just comes out looking like trhe sun.  how do i over ride the focus and light reading to get a clear image of the moons features, and what settings should i use?

Hi Nightkin,

You have an exposure problem because the exposure meter is taking an average light value for the whole frame.

If you press MENU and scroll down to METERING MODE and change the mode to SPOT METERING your meter will just evaluate the exposure of the few pixels in the center of the frame (shown by a small cross).

This should expose correctly for the moon if it is in the center of the frame - if the moon is to not be in the center, then point the cross ot the moon and half depress the shutter release until you hear a beep, then recompose the picture and depress the shutter release all the way.
