Phone keeps saying SD card unmounted and also keeps freezing and I need to do a hard reboot

I have had the phone about 3 weeks and at random times it gives the SD Card unmounted message and seperately goes into the frozen rolling screen for xperia which means I have to do a hard reboot presing on and volume buttons at the same time.

Virgin say phone must be exchanged but I do dot want to lose all my data & apps

@Jumper2 do you have L or L1 or L2?

You can always backup using Xperia Companion before giving your phone in for replacement.

@Jumper2 have you checked the tutorial on how to backup?

Did you also check if the same occurs using a different SD card?

I have had my L1 for about a year now and a few days ago started experiencing this very same problem for the first time .. it seemed to happen just after an update , Xperia Transfer Mobile was one of the apps updated at that time so I suspect this might have introduced a problem - could this be possible?  My phone has been working fine up until this, so it's really annoying!!

@siouxcatsy dont think it has something to do with xperia transfer. Have you tried to use the phone without SIM and SD card?

No, as my sd card seems to be working perfectly, no problems reading or writing to it, so I'm hesitant to remove it and fork out buying a replacement.   Instead, last night,  I thought I'd try disabling Xperia Transfer first.  I went to the Settings > Apps > Xperia Transfer Mobile > Storage and cleared the data and cache, having first uninstalled it's updates.  I set Permission to "no permissions granted" and Write system settings to "No".   I then clicked on Force Stop (it wouldn't let me select Disable).   I've also set Google Play Store not to auto-update this one app.   I haven't had any problems since doing this, so I think this may have fixed it.     Hope this solution may help anyone else still having the same issue.

UPDATE - I had also installed MalwareBytes, and after my problem seemed to have been sorted I uninstalled it - and the problem then reappeared!!  So maybe having MalwareBytes running helps???  I'm going to reinstall it and see what happens...

@siouxcatsy its an app acting up or the SIM, keep us updated.

Running Malwarebytes again didn't help, unfortunately, so I tried running the phone in Safe Mode but it still kept crashing.  So next I've removed the SD card, as suggested, to see what effect that has.

Well, removing the sd card does seem to have solved the problem.   I've decided I can manage without an sd card anyway, so I'll never know if it works with a new sd card or not!
