Sony KDL**HX923

Should i be worried, apparently complaints are comming in already for this new tv on dark verticle lines either side of the screen!, i have seen this before on the LG i had that went back for a full refund as it was the area where the ribbon cable joins at the screen for the backlight (could be seen from the front) i had 3 of them and the engineer said its not right, heres the pics of the Sony.

Hi everyone,

sorry because I didn't read all the posts in this topic but I would want to know if my problem was already mentioned.

This is a view of my problem on a 46HX920 (I'm French).

IMG_8962s.jpg

These light leaks are located on the low corners (movies with clear scenes and black stripes) and I want to say that LED Dynamic control was to standard.

Does someone have the same problem ?

I hope StartTheCar will see my post and will can relay my problem...

@Greg_D

There are three problems so far reported with the HX923

1 - 'crease', or edge artefact down right and left and side of the screen, approx 1cm in and 1cm wide.  So far this has been the biggest complaint.

2 - light leaks in the corners, I have read a few who have this issue and I would say you have a faulty set, it should not leak light like that.

3 - buzzing from power switch - read a few who have had this issue, again it is a fault.

Hope you get yours sorted but I would personally be looking to get a replacement TV, like I say you should not get the corners of the TV lighting up like that.

Hiya Andy

It's around 10cm into the screen and around 20cm down from the top left edge. It's hard to describe but it's as if the colour at that point is a differant shade???

Im sure that Sony will sort this problem out, i have never had a bad Sony product and all manufacturers have some problems with their products. I have just returned my Panasonic 50vt30 due to dirt and finger prints behind the glass!. I also have (now in the family) a Sony KDL40x3000 and the set has been fantastic from the day it left the box so lets not get downhearted with this issue. I really think its a good gesture on Sony's part to provide us with 3D glasses due this issue, what did i get from pansonic....... nothing!. So lets hang on in there.

i have just got this email -

I have arranged a collection of KDL55HX923BU x 01 for your above mentioned order on 22/07/2011.

Please make sure that the TV is properly packed and in its original packaging.

Once we receive this TV back in our warehouse then a replacement TV would be sent out to you.

so thats going to be 2 more days i have to take off work and wait on sony. also i am now

going to be without at tv - for who no's how long.

lets hope they are waiting for a fresh delivery before they send me one.

this is turning into a right farce, seriously considering now telling them to shove this tv and give me my money back.

ok so the 3D glasses gesture was GREAT assuming though that when we received our replacement sets as I've done today that they would be fault free. sadly they are not so the 3D glasses are about as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

apparently even the editor of "what hifi" has been asking sony uk marketing to comment on this whole debacle on not surprisingly has not had a single response.

whilst Lee aka StarttheCar is doing admirable work on here I have to feel for the guy. Sony UK or corporate really need to step in here ASAP as they are seriously starting to look bad leaving one guy to front this is not really fair.

in the current economy i'm not sure how clever it is to basically be stone walling customers or potential customers of your flagship products. given that pretty much everyone these days uses the internet to research any potential purchase of any value surely Sony are not blind to the fact that 1 minute on google and you'll see nothing but hits for "bad experiences" with the HX923 ranges....not exactly i imagine going to boost sales or confidence in your other products.

i've had my current sony lcd for 5 years, i'm a sony fan. this experience has not only lightened my wallet considerably (ok i know my dealer will refund me ASAP if i come to that decision) but its also starting to seriously damage any brand loyalty i have for Sony.

based on everything i've read today my gut feeling is Sony are not going to address this until the HX923 is replaced with a new model in 2012, leaving us all with two choices. accept it and go away or send them back and go elsewhere for a TV.

Agree with you there Southernsmogg.

I'm hoping that when the new batch come in I'll be pleasantly surprised, (I'll be testing in-store).  Whilst Lee has been doing an admirable job, (god knows how many e-mails he has received and dealt with), it does feel to me that Sony have kinda been a little evasive, my dealer has still yet to hear anything official from Sony.  So first it is a 'crease' and thus faulty, whereas now it's an 'edge artefact' and just part of the TV and the way it is put together.

What I don't understand is why Sony have not come out and given an official statement?

Whoooooaaaaaa......WTF!!!

How did we go from:

Engineer@Sony:

"I just got off the phone with a Sony Engineer. Their support has been absolutely awesome so far. You can really tell they care about their product. The issue has been identified as an adhesive curing rate problem between the polarizer and the glass. Through research they have identified sets manufactured after June 15th as being fixed. No word yet on how they will handle replacements."

Source: http://ww.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=20680979#post20680979

Lee@Sony:

"On the plus side, while I was away, it would appear that a colleagues or at least an associate of ours in the US has provided the technical explanation I had been struggling to get together or effectively put into words.

The only thing I would add is that not all sets before the 15th were affected.  To be honest, had this been the case, the subsequent scale of this issue (and forum threads) would have been much more significant.

Finally, I am very aware that I have not yet replied to each and every e-mail you have sent me.  Once we get this issue out and I am confident all of the affected televisions have been exchanged, I will go through all of them and drop you a reply."

Source: https://www.sony.co.uk/discussions/thread/128007?start=151&tstart=0

to:

"Based on that experience and the feedback I have received from all over Sony over the last couple of weeks, I believe that there is always going to be some level (albeit very minor) of edge artefact (clearly not my words) on these units.   No doubt a conclusion many of you had already got to. That said, I had to really look for it and it certainly didn’t interfere/display under any sort of regular viewing conditions."

Source: https://www.sony.co.uk/discussions/thread/128007?start=196&tstart=0

What happened to "only a small number of sets before the 15th..." it now seems to be ALL sets, but to a lesser obvious extent?

It is just me or does that sound like a huge admission that although the problem has been identified, it cannot be fully fixed and is likely to remain "to some level" on all units?

Therefore, it would appear that the problem and cause has now be acknowledged, but due to the generalised view (from Sony) that it is now only a minor issue, it has been decided to continue selling units as is and replace any early units that are "worse than the minor level of creasing that is to be expected on all sets..." or offer a refund.

Does this seem a fair summary? If so, then it looks like the nirvana we are all seeking is apparently never going to be achieveable :slight_frown:

Personally, I am going to give the TV one last chance when my replacement arrives in August and gauge for myself what "...always going to be some level (albeit very minor) of edge artefact..." means to me on my individual TV. If it is not acceptable, then I think it is refund time and put this whole debacle behind me...

Cheers

JJ

norks27,

i hope you are lucky i really do, however heres the thing, Sony have already said that these sets will be exactly the same as the ones you have now, even two months down the line they are not expecting any change,

i and im sure one or more others now believe the theory on this Adhesive bonding process and if this is correct then unless they impliment the change i suggested (unlikely!) we will still be getting the same thing.
