Should i be worried, apparently complaints are comming in already for this new tv on dark verticle lines either side of the screen!, i have seen this before on the LG i had that went back for a full refund as it was the area where the ribbon cable joins at the screen for the backlight (could be seen from the front) i had 3 of them and the engineer said its not right, heres the pics of the Sony.

Edited links to work properly (originally double http)
@Bravia55HX923 - cheers, though I suspect you're right in your assessment, in fact I know you are right. Feels like we've had a journey up and down the garden path.
As far as I can tell all the flagship models have issues, so Panasonic, LG and Samsung are not really on the radar. I've thought about trying to source a HX903, there are still a few about. Alternatively I could wait a year....
I do not own a sony KDL**HX923 but have been following this thread as i have found it quite interesting, if as thought the problem is the adhesive process then i'm sure the assumption would be that these items are put together by an automated system in some far off corner of the world.
Dependent on the complexity of the equipment used to assemble these items, changing the process would not be quick and might be expensive, also with stock in the system at the plant and in transit on the high seas this is likely to take several months to filter through to new modified stock, that is if Sony are prepared to spend money on fixing something that they now appear to be saying is a quirk of the TV.
Therefore it is highly likely that whatever is being shipped now may have had some local tweaking to try to overcome the concern or lessen it, but brand new stock from a new process is likely to be several months away, that's if Sony ever change the process, prefering instead to rely on "it's normal and is not a fault".
norks27,
trust me, Sony are not the only ones, Panasonic, LG,and Samsung have their issues as well, the LG i can vouch for as i returned one with backlight issues for a full refund as there were no more available, all manufacturers have their faults granted but they should be addressed and sorted promptly, you would think that after all these years in manufacturing tv's they would all be spot on by now, i accept one or two will slip through the net and one or two will develop a fault whilst in use but to ship whole container ship loads thinking "oh that will do" is unacceptable (sorrySony) but its true.
we dont want excuse after excuse, we dont want a refund, we want a quality product for which it was designed for, to view HD content and Blu-Ray movies!,
trust me Sony, you almost had it right, this tv is second to none, build, picture quality etc, but to fob us off because you put the damned glue in the wrong place is not the way to go.
yes you do notice the backlight kicking in at times but this is LED/LCD technology and we can probably live with that.
so come on, grow a pair, and give us what we want, put the Adhesive where i said distribute the rectified sets and make us proud to be the owner of a Sony product.
and stop lining your coffers to fund next years products with further issues!
Hi
I received my Sony 46HX923 last Friday and finally got it mounted on Tuesday, its looks great, BUT:
1) I can see the crease, however it is very feint.
2) I have some light leaking in the corner, same as Greg_D
I am going to see how I go over the weekend, will keep you posted. As many of you have already expressed its just not good enough for the flagship model.
Mistry
I have decided on a refund and will be waiting until either the issue is completly resolved or next years model, however I just wanted to know if others might have noticed a similiar problem to my second set I recieved. basically I was watching tour d france and thought I saw water on the camera lens of but it wasnt raining, I then checked the set by putting a photgraph of the sky up on my ps3 zooming in and then panning (can't see when static) I could then see off centre what looked like water or an out of focus rain drop on a camera lens, I can only think this is an adhesive issue or something on the back of the gorrilla glass.

Hi mistry,
have you tried backing off the backlight to around 6 or 7 and the contrast down to 65-70, then stick Aliens or The Dark Knight or such like and see if the corners still light up, admittedly it should not be there, another suggestion turn the backlight off and see if it leaks then, naturally it shouldent, if thats the case then the backlight when its on is leaking past the LCD screen in the corners.
Lee Tried to call - the third set I received today has the same issue although very very faint on the left but a lot worse than the two previous sets on the right. Can you contact me please as I like the TV but can't continue with this new TV the way it is. I also can't understand why there is little or no problem on the left edge but bad on the right edge. Surely if the problem was an artefact then there would be a problem on both sides. If they can get the left side almost perfect then why not both sides??? Please can you let us know if this situation will improve or if Sony are saying that these inconsistent issues are going to continue for the life of their flagship TV. If it is going to improve then when and will we be able to swap in a couple of months? I like the TV if it was perfect but not if it's going to have flaws. Is it too much to ask that Sony utilise good materials and systems and glue to make their top of the range TVs?
Hi,
i have already told them what to do regarding this bonding issue and it has been forwarded to their tech guys unfortunately this, if implimented is going to take a while,
this issue has manifested itself on the top of the screen also as it had on mine,
im going to drag out a replacement as you have already discovered its fruitless thus far.
.....funny...or not....mine is also visible on the right side only. i'd almost go so far as to say you don't see anything on the left...almost.
Well i noticed something last night on the left side of the screen, It was a black screen for the uk food channel what they put on when they have gone home! All down the left side i had white/grey peaks coming into the screen as much as 10 to 15 cm. So i did these setting courtesy of AVS forum and the screen seems to look fantastic.
