Sony KDL**HX923

Should i be worried, apparently complaints are comming in already for this new tv on dark verticle lines either side of the screen!, i have seen this before on the LG i had that went back for a full refund as it was the area where the ribbon cable joins at the screen for the backlight (could be seen from the front) i had 3 of them and the engineer said its not right, heres the pics of the Sony.

I think I have gotten lucky.

Sony Centre emailed me to say they had a Sony checked model in store for me to check.

Went to view....

Three staff members glued to the screen and at the end of testing:

No crease!!!! (at least the three of us could not convince ourselves that we could see it)

No corner flashlighting with 2.35:1 films.

The picture was stunning with deep blacks, no evidence of black crush and nice fluid movement.  I was extrememly impressed especially given that the settings where out of the box and untweaked.

Hopefully delivery Saturday.

This is good news, at least it proves there are crease free sets out there.

I'm still waiting to hear from Sony about a replacement.

Quite frankly I'm starting to hate this TV - last night it started buzzing terribly. I switched it off and it kept making this tick, tick tick noise. Eventually I had to use the switch on the side and that stopped it. The speakers are faulty and start to distort on any volume over 18 and it has this crease issue.

I gave Sony a lot of money for a pre-order on this TV. They had it for months. Then they cancel my delivery even though I had taken a day off work to accept it. Then it arrives and it has the crease. The Sony engineers (if you can call them that) who came around were like tweedledum and tweedledee. First the guy tells me the crease is because it is a edgelit set :anguished: (obviously he knows a lot about the set!). Then the other guy tells me no one makes plasmas anymore. Months on I still do not have a good set and no word on when I might get one. Who would guess buying a TV would be so difficult!

This is my first Sony purchase (bar a HandyCam I brought 12 years ago). I have never known a company with such poor customer service and technical support. I have never been much of a plasma fan but I hear good things about the VT30. Perhaps they know how to treat a customer. Sony you could do a lot better.

norks27,

WOW!!, you lucky S.O.B, thats fantastic, lets hope the rest of us get lucky too, that sort of news turns the corner its a shame that no further confirmation on this has been posted by Sony yet though, i have not heard from my dealer yet either and he's usually the first to know anything unless i'm on here and get it first!

Does feel like I've been the lucky recipient of a golden ticket.

It's the 55" HX923, the serial number being 3600038

Pretty sure the box was marked 05/2011 - it's one of the sets that where recalled direct from the dealer, checked and then sent out again.

I'll know for sure by the end of the weekend whether I have got myself a good one, although I did give it a fair testing in the store.

cool, that serial is earlier than the one i have so one from the first batch of tv's, how odd, indeed you'll have to double check when you get it as store lighting is a bit different from home

good luck, keep us all posted.

Okay so my replacement set has finally arrived. It is significantly better. There is still a faint sign of a crease on the top right corner and at the bottom but they are pretty fain and you have to look for them.

Blooming seems better on this set straight out of the box. I still need to play with it a bit but so far so good.

Hi

I just took delivery of my new Sony Bravia KDL-46HX923 on Monday July 25, 2011.

I having pre-ordered and pre-paid for the TV in late March 2011 from the Sony concession in Harrods having been told when I ordered that the set was due out at the start of May.

Some four months later I finally have the TV (after having to chase and chase Sony :smileyangry:).

I am very disappointed :slight_frown: with the TV as it has two pronounced vertical lines/shadows down the left hand side of the panel about in the first left two centimetres, one bright then one dark.  The panel also seems to have much brighter lower corners (especially the lower left corner).  There is also visible to a lesser extent on the right side.

The KDL-46HX923’s serial number is 3600129, so I am guessing it is one of the first units manufactured.  The box states it was made in 05/2011.

I am no expert in LCD technology but to me the phenomenon I am seeing is very similar to what I see if I press my thumb against any modern LCD panel, with dark and light areas appearing.  So perhaps the panel is being pinched or squeezed by the case/bezel?

Anyway, I see that there are over 100 posts on this forum for what seems to be a similar problem.

The question is how do I get this sorted?

Hi Objectbase,

welcome to the forum, you have fell foul of what is now termed as "edge artifact" which if you read these forums theres plenty of discussion on the subject!,

you need to contact the dealer from where you purchased and make them aware of this and aware that Sony knows of this also, but i'll bet the dealer is probably already aware and ask for a replacement set.

this is a little ongoing so you will need to persevere with it.

@objectbase - the picture you posted - that seems one of the worst examples I've yet to see.

@Bravia55HX923 - good luck
