Sony KDL**HX923

Should i be worried, apparently complaints are comming in already for this new tv on dark verticle lines either side of the screen!, i have seen this before on the LG i had that went back for a full refund as it was the area where the ribbon cable joins at the screen for the backlight (could be seen from the front) i had 3 of them and the engineer said its not right, heres the pics of the Sony.

got my 2nd replacement set from Sony.

worse than first. had enough now of all of this so sent it back for full refund.

very very disappointed in sony putting up with the "good enough" mantra....its not good enough at this price level.

very very impressed however with the Sony dealer they have been excellent and  completely supportive. sony dealer has told me they've now told sony  they are not will to sell any more of these models as they are just  wasting too much of their time. as of today they've got 8 more sets to  send back and that's just this weeks batch, so far they've said every single HX923 they've sold has been returned....shudder to think what that has cost the dealer in lost sales!!!!!

sony if you can sort this issue out properley in the next month or so let me know and I'll buy another but I'm not willing to take any more chances that I might get one of the supposed good ones as from my experience they are none there are only customers that can live with the issue. ok maybe there are good ones but they must be the vast minority based on my own experience and the anecdotal feedback from the dealer....if they've sold over 20 and noone has kept theirs that's surely more than just bad luck????????

bad news smoggy, i was just begining to think that they were sending good ones out.

been a week since mine went back and no word from them.

as a matter of interest, what serial no. was this last set they tried to palm off on you?

Build date was 06/2011 and serial number was 3600951

here's hoping more dealers refuse to stock these (as the group I dealt with have) and maybe sony will do something and finally admit a QA process makes diddly squat difference if the machines building the sets are churning out dud after dud.

if they sort this out and build them properly i'd buy one in a heartbeat but until then looks like i'll just have to sit and wait (as none of the other 2011 models interest me) and go back to watching my, crease free, 6 year old KDL-V40A12U.

Hello

Sent my Sony 46hx923 back today and have mounted the Panasonic 50vt30, its awesome, just not as good looking as the Sony when its off, but no crease or light bleed.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone thats has been on this feed as its been very helpful and instructive, at the same time i will be glad not to have to refer to it anymore!

Cheers

might be time to cut and run soon, as i have just seen this -

the new LW9800 series, shown off here in Korea as the LW980S. Announced in two sizes, 55- and 47-inches, both feature "Nano LED" local dimming with as many as 2,300 sources in the larger one and 480Hz motion technology. They also include other LG standard features like Cinema 3D, Magic Motion gesture remote control and its Smart TV menus as well as built-in WiFi, but the big draw here is the deep blacks and a claim of the industry's highest 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

sounds interesting and no mention of any stupid black lines.

but this mad me laugh -

Sony's still moving gobs of panels, but according to Chief Financial Officer Masaru Kato, "markets are maturing and price competition is stiff" in advanced nations. Mr. Kato recently spoke candidly with The Nikkei (linked below; subscription required), noting that the company is aiming to turn its TV business "into one that can be profitable even if we do not pursue volume." In order to do so, the entire platform is being looked at -- "no stone will be left unturned"

but plenty of forums will be left un-read.

Posted on AVF and copied across to this forum - as you can tell I am rather happy with my 55":

Took receipt of my 55" on Saturday and managed to get it all set up and connected. The set was a 05/11 model

I'd viewed the set in store and was happy that it was a crease free version. It's worth mentioning that I previously used a Sony 40X2000, which by todays standards can not compete with the new sets, so my enthusiasm for the TV is bound to be high given the large jump in quality/size

Now that it's set up and running I can happily report that I'm not seeing the crease issue, maybe just maybe I can spot a very slim vertical mark on the left and right, but, I have to really look for it. From my viewing position, (approx 2m), I just don't have an issue, nothing is detracting from what is simply a sublime picture. Initially I did find my eyes continually wandering to look for faults but in the end I gave up and became absorbed by the sheer quality, the deep deep blacks, vibrant colours, fluid motion and beautiful detail of the HD picture

I don't suffer from excess blooming nor do I have the flashlights, (corner backlight bleed). Essentially I am blown away by the picture quality, and I've yet to tinker with any of the settings, merely selected 'cinema' in the scene setting and played a whole bunch of blu-rays. So even 'out of the box settings' looked gorgeous.

My Dad came down and the two of us put the set through it's paces. Watching 'Alien' was as if I'd never seen the film before, seriously we where totally immersed. Everything looked so alive, by comparison the 40X2000 now seems lacklustre and rather dull.

To try out the 3D we viewed 'Tron - Legacy' - WOW. Two of us on the sofa looking like complete errr... well we looked daft. However the 3D experience was far better than I had anticipated. The glasses fitted comfortably over my Dad's specs and where reasonably comfortable.

To quote my Dad, 'best TV I've ever seen and I've seen a few'.

I'll try and upload some pictures soon although my little iphone camera will hardly do it justice.

I had one issue when mounting the screen to the stand I have, (BDI Vista 9960 - http://www.bdiusa.com/theater/vista_9960.shtml). In order to mount the horizontal bars to the rear of the screen involves unscrewing a few bolts, the screw heads where such soft metal that they are very easily mashed up and unscrewable, I ended up having to use a set of vise-grips to remove the screws.

I sincerely hope that others on here can find a good HX923, in my opinion it is worth it.

Right now I am in home cinema heaven

i hope so!

though all these delays and having had two of these already means by the time the next batch come in we are going to be very close the the LG 980 release so i've decided i'm also going to audition it as well, be stupid not to really.

hope the august batch are fixed and i mean fixed not just "not as bad" i don't want to spend this kind of money for "not as bad" it just seems ridiculous doing that.

one thing is for sure for my 3rd HX923 i am going to view it at the store i don't think the wife will tolerate me unpacking another TV in the lougne, boxing up the old TV only to then swap them out again.

I guess we all get used to just buying electronic goods that work...certainly at these kind of prices. maybe i've been lucky but this is the first TV of any kind i've ever had to send back.
