Should i be worried, apparently complaints are comming in already for this new tv on dark verticle lines either side of the screen!, i have seen this before on the LG i had that went back for a full refund as it was the area where the ribbon cable joins at the screen for the backlight (could be seen from the front) i had 3 of them and the engineer said its not right, heres the pics of the Sony.

yet another update, i rang the number i posted 2 comments above, after 5 minutes of going through some muppet on the answerphone - he puts me on hold and then the call ends.
ring up again, this time after 10 minutes of messing about and being put on hold, the guy tells me i have to report this issue on the sales line number 08456000124.
now you see why we need compensation if you we unlucky enough to have one delivered - as if you have the damn thing its nearly impossible to get any help.
so i will now waste some more time and money seeing what the sales people have to say.
well don't take option 3 - help, then option 3 non tv help , all you get is another number to ring.
more money/time wasted.
ring yet again trying option 2 - guy answered , did'nt no about the isuue so - sitting on hold again, tummteetumm, 4 minutes later he comes back on to say he is looking into when the next batch will be in, then back on hold again. (at least it sounds like i have the right guy at last).
He has come back on to say they will look into it and contact me back this afternoon.
oh - damn, was that busy typing this in as it happened, i forgot to ask for a reference number, any bets on i never hear from him again and have to start from square one.
I am keeping my HX923 55inch but i have a few questions? Can anyone hear a ticking sound when it is in Standby? Do i just leave the TV in Standby mode or do i turn off with the little rocker switch?
Also Who has Virgin v+HD? I am running the Virgin into an onkyo tx-nr609 when i watch a HD channel picture is good but if i watch some channels in SD on Virgin it looks a bit blocky and pixelated? The TV is set to 1080p yet Virgin is set 1080i? What settings are people using on their tv and Virgin? Im new to all this and wish i had kept my CRT TV as the Standard def pic was much better.
Hi SAMBAVANMAN,
try these to get started,
picture mode- standard
backlight-8
contrast-80
brightness-55
colour-55
colour temp- warm 1
sharpness-50
reality creation -auto
smooth grad-low
motionflow-standard (not for everyone)
film mode-auto 2
everything thing else just experiment, but do turn Auto light limiter off !,
have fun,
oh, theres an off button on the side, but leave the energy saver switch alone!.
But when i press the little button on the back side of the tv that is inline with the volume the little led is still on at the front which i thought is standby? but when i press the rocker switch the other way it goe's off. Should i leave the tv in standby then?
Also do you have local dimming on or off?
P.s Thanks for the settings i have my backlight set to 1 as my eyes were burning past 5:smileylaugh:
Ok,
LED Dynamic control to standard,
the top button on the side is on/off button and theres no standby light on (forget the rocker switch),
as for the backlight burnin your eyes, your not used to such a big tv yet!, did you say you had a CRT TV before this?, in any event its set a bit low, oh and i dont bother with the vivid setting as its "too in yer face" for my liking that leaves custom and you can tinker about and find something to your liking there, as ive said the standard settings i gave you is just to get you going.
I deffinatly have a red led light that stays on in the left bottom corner that was green when the tv was on! when i press the top button do i have to hold it in for a few seconds to turn off? When you press the button doe's the green led in bottom left just go off?
It's the same as when you press the button on the remote it goe's red.
Yes i had a crt tv before
Andy,
I don't yet have my set, why leave the rocker switch alone.
I assumed the top button is standby. and the rocker isolates the mains.
If you press the button on the side the tv goes off and theres no red led light, even when you turn it off this way you can still turn it on with the remote if you want to or press the button again, and no, theres no need to hold the button at all.
looks like they have proved me wrong.
I am arranging a collection and replacement for your KDL55HX923BU x 01 for the above mentioned order.

any of you guys who have had a swop out, is it only the panel that gets swopped or the job lot tv/stand/remote etc?
