TV as a monitor to laptop

I have a 15 pin-15 pin VGA cable. When I connect laptop to Bravia, none of the other outputs show anything. the PC output says "no Sync". I understand the TV and Laptop have to be set up, but I'm not sure what to do in either case. Will 15/15 cable do it, or usb/usb or 15 pin/usb or any other combibation. Any help greatly appreciated.

What model PC do you have and which model Bravia?

Hi, sorry for the delay, been away.. The PC is Acer aspire running Windows Vista, and the Sony TV is the Bravia KDL 32S55xx
