Clicking noise only when power is unplugged

I have a very strange issue. My Sony VAIO makes a very strange clicking noise, when I'm using the battery. It dissappears immediately when it is plugged to a power source.

Do you have a clue to what is wrong?

This does sound quite strange, does the clicking noise sound mechanical, like a metal tapping noise?

I am just thinking it's the hard disk spinning at a slower speed when you unplug the power and resulting in the noise.
