connecting an extern harddisk

Can anyone tell me how to connect an extern harddisk to my Vaio PCG-FX 405?

Usually via USB or Firewire.

I can't remember if the FX 405 had USB 1.0 or 2.0!

If it's USB 1.0 youre better of using Firewire... ....Sorry Sony, iLink...as it's much faster and won't inhibit the external HDDs speed in anyway!

It would be USB1
as it was 1999 IIRC
