dvd r trouble

i have a vaio model number pcg 8l3m
it says on the drive that it is a cd rewritable and dvd r/rw yet it will not recognise blank dvd+r is there something i need to do or is it not a dvd writer??

Are you sure that this model can write both dvd formats (+ & -) ?

The FR315m has a DVD ROM - the FR315s has a dual format DVD writer.
