Just noticed at Vaio village that another unfortunate soul has a problem with their GRX memory slots.
William
Ah poor them.
Which model?
Heaven knows how many people have had the same problem and don't frequent these forums. Also a lot of people probably have the problem and don't even know it
Ah I see
Wonder how many MP's have had this issue?
Hi, just wondered if anyone had had any similar problems with the GRV516G.
Ive owned it for 9 months and was very happy up until this week - when it started freezing and reporting only having 256MB installed instead of the 512MB !
Spec is: 512MB (sometimes!!), WIndows XP pro, wireless LAN PCMCIA(when needed), USB mouse.
Symptoms:
Intermittently freezes - no concistency over when (time or currently running software)
Intermittently reports 256MB in the PC rather than 512MB (both in BIOS and XP)
User gets angry
My initial thoughts were MM problems so I decided to remove the additional MM and see if it would run OK with the original 256MB - ironically when I was writing this post the first time I discovered that the machine also 'acts up' when running the original 256MB only - I am not happy! I am currently trying it running with only the additional 256MB MM (obviously in the first slot)- luckily my PC is still in warranty. However I cant do without it for weeks, not really even days as I use it for work 10 hours a day.
What can I expect from Sony Support?
You can expect them to replace the motherboard. I got my GRX back in less than a week.
Your problem may however be faulty memory, I haven't heard of the slot problem with the GRV series
less than a week - thats much quicker than I expected!
Gold star to Sony on that one!
dont think its a memory problem - have no tried:
both MM on their own, both together (in both slots) and problem still occurss - since my last post I am now also getting problems powering on the machine - needing to hold the power button down and restart! waiting for a complete death of the PC soon
Have a delivery of a website in a weeks time - cr*p timing!
Thanks for the reply
I hope you get it returned as quickly as me. Make sure you do a full backup before you return it - they invariably restore the hard drive to it's original state.
Hi!
I'm the unlucky soul with the broken slot.
Unfortunately, I just have one year warranty and it seems that my Notebook takes the same way as almost every other sony hardware I own: It breaks just after the warranty expired...
