PCG-FR 415M Fan Speed Control

Hi,
Is it possible to control the fan speed in my sony (PCG-FR415M)
They are always on.
The noise is horrible and the batteries just last for an hour.
Thank you

Yes, with PowerPannel you can set it to quiet

First thank you for your reply.
I already had Power panel installed and in the profiles menu, the thermal control strategy was defined has quiet.
But the fans are still in full power. I note no difference between performance and quiet option.
What do you know about SpeedswitchXP and Speedfan applications?
Regards

Can't say I know much about those programs...

What CPU do you have?

Assuming your processor is a desktop one (short battery life & fan noise) please bear in mind that those fans are working very hard to disperse the significant amounts of heat produced by the processor and graphic chips.

Although having not tried any fan speed control software myself I would suggest you make sure it is intended for laptops rather than desktop computers.

I did use speedswitch for a while on my GRX without any problems but didn't really notice any difference.

It's possible the fan didn't slow down because it refuses to when there is a danger that doing so may cause heat damage. In fact forcing your fan onto quiet with such a powerful desktop processor may actually do you a lot more harm than good. Even on my standard software to set the fan speed, the processor's speed drop is quite noticeable.

If the fan noise is really that bothersome to you I'd consider a separate cooling device that fits under the laptop. That means you can turn the fan down nice and quiet without risk of anything unpleasant happening.

I wouldn't use a program to slow down the CPU as it will cause long term damage due to heat, which causes stress.

Hi,

I own the same laptop and I must say that my fans aren't running all the time. When I am using word or something different, they even don't run at all.

Speedfan and other programs won't let you adjust your fan speed, those programs can't even read all the sensord in your notebook.
With mobmeter you can see the temps correctly, maybe your cpu and or harddrive are running hot?

The fans on my ltp are always on.
I think i wil call Sony for troubleshooting this problem.
