PCG-Z1XSP CD Reading Problem

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio PCG-Z1XSP. The problem I am having is that it is not picking up information stored on cd's. When I put them into another computer they work fine.

Does Any body have any ideas.

P.S - I have closed the cds properly in the cd writing software

No, instead my CD/DVD drive does not work at all. If you can hear the spinning sound when you slide the tray in then you're ahead of me. My machine can 'see' the drive fine in it's system but it is not registering that it has a disc in it.

Forgot to mention, I have an XSP as well. (My post regarding my problem is further down the page. Check it, maybe we have the same problem?)

Perhaps this is a hardware fault? I had Sony here check it out (currently in Sydney) and they seem to think I'm going to need a new drive.

Update:

Just spoke to the guys at Sony in the UK and they gave me this link for a firmware update. First uninstall your Drive, then run teh update, then re-install it.
