Hi All,
I have a VPCEC1S1E/BJ and yesterday just loss the screws and have a look on the hard disk position. I found there're two empty position could contain 2 hard drive, only one of them are occupied at the moment. When I checked the sockets, what a strange!! only one socket available there, if I want to make a second hard drive operational, it's definitely need to replace the socket, any one have ideal about 2nd hard drive accessories? It's pity I didn't take a photo there.
Thanks in advance.
Lei
Gklitsman, that all looks right to me.
From what i found you can order from that site, but they deliver only to the us.
you can order internationally from here:
http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/searchresults.aspx?pn=A-1766-534-A
but for the UK it comes to a total of £90 without prepaid taxes or £130 with and i think that's a bit much.
I would want to combine shipping with someone else or get someone in the us to get and send me one to bring the cost down.
Hi
I need the very same thing guys. And I tell you its a pain to even find more info about it. Sony doesnt want to know...Ordering from states for that sort of money for just a cable? I think not...Shame really as I bought my VPCEC2S0E as an upgrade to my old AR21M which btw has dual connector even if there only one HDD in it;/
I think we have to forget that for now, dan
Hi everyone,
I'm supprised there're a lot of people using the same model with me.
I have hesitate to find proper dual adapter for hard disk. If any one got a new dual disk adapter please do let us know. Thanks.

Well it may be worth contacting UK sony at some point, but I dont really think they will have the part here. Maybe dual connector from other laptops will do as well? I have ar21m but the connector is completely different. I also had AW21Z, now my friend has it, will try to check for dual connector in there as well. Other than that I dont think is possible for us UK guys find this part...Bit of a puzzle really because we have that spare space for HDD there being just a space:(
Dan
Well, I was looking for the same thing and got directed here by another member.
Pretty outrageous asking us to pay that kind of money for a cable we have to order from the States. Had I known this at the start, I would have simply ordered a model with 2 drives pre-installed...
I have come up with another solution which, whilst not suited for everyone may be useful for some.
I am just going to put my 2nd drive in this little enclosure. No power cables needed and can be connected via esata so should be plenty quick enough. Yes, it means I am going to have to carry it around if I need it but I'd rather do that than pay a ridiculous amount of money for a cable.

The parts in those photos will definately not fit into my 17" VPEC1ME
In my Vaio the second empty HDD space is in a completely seperate compartment to the primary. It's not possible to connect the two.
It appears that I simply need the exact same adapter-case/part (whatever it's called) that my primary HDD uses.
I have another viao which is exactly the same but with a 14"screen, can't remember the model number right now. But it also has the exact same case on the HDD which I have in my 17", so I'm pretty sure that I can just take that HDD out of the 14"and put it directly into the 2nd space in mine.
As soon as I manage to get the 14" back from my baby sister I'll have a closer look, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.
If the price is right, $70 is beyond a joke. I can buy an Android phone for that much!
But I really really want a 2nd HDD!!!!
£130 is completely insane!
One way or another I'm definately going to get the part I need. I would be very happy to combine a package with others if it would save some $$$. Would be interesting to see how it can be arranged if we get a few people together
17" VPCEC1M1E
I would very much like this part too, but would you need anything else? Apart from another Hdd that is. I assume you couldn't just buy another M980 SATA HDD FPC SINGLE, & plug it into the MB. Here are some photos of the insides of the VPCEC, from someone who is trying to do a i7 upgrade -

He posted about this in the Official Vaio E Owners Thread.
No-one there has found a solution to this as yet. I have sucessfully replaced my original 320Gb with a Crucial 128Gb C300 SSD, and is an amazing upgrade, Windows 7 boottime is 20 seconds. Photo Shop CS 5.1 load time is 2 seconds, Firefox 3.6.17 is 1.5 seconds.
If anyone wants to group together to bulk buy some of these dual Hdd SATA connectors, please feel free to PM me.
According to this review, it's not possible to add the double SATA because " There is only one socket for the ribbon cable. Upgrade not possible".

There is another solution discussed on the Vaio E owners lounge, you can remove your blu ray / dvd burner, put the Hdd/SSD into a SATA caddy for the Opticial bay, it is confirmed to work, here is a link to the part -

I'm thinking, if there is only one socket, then without replacing that socket with a double one on the MB, and getting the double SATA connector it is not possible. If this were done, it would cost £100s, and take ages to source both the double SATA, and the double connector. So I think I will eventually just get this caddy for optical drive slot.
The upgrade is possible.
The cable I have been looking to buy replaces the current one which has one drive connector with one which has two connectors.
It's available from the states but not this side of the water as far as i can see.
